Public Brain

Public Brain is a shared thinking practice. 30 people signed up to be an on-call part of my brain to be consulted at the roll of a 30 sided dice whenever I had a question to consider. Public Brain is a both a strategy for activating the generative possibility of conversational thought processes and a random exposure of what would ordinarily be private thinking habits. There have been several iterations of Public Brain in 2009, 2010 and 2011 each composed of a different collection of members. These have resulted in a screenprinted poster, top 10 countdown low frequency radio broadcast and a collaboratively written essay on the history of the idea of community that was published as a part of Anna Gray and Ryan Wilson Paulsen’s September publication for PICA’s Time Based Art Festival 2011.
